Over 50 and Out of Work
How has the Great Recession affected you?
News of the website Over 50 and Out of Work came to me when a colleague who moved to Boston to find work after she could not find work as an illustrator in NYC for two years. She is waaay under 50, and is supplementing her work by teaching now. However, she sent me a link about a documentary film winning an Indy award, after clicking on a few links, one lead me to Over 50 & Out of Work. While I have yet see the documentary Set for Life...I do think this is refreshing and real.
The site features an online multi-media project started by a NYC based filmmaker and a multimedia journalist documenting those affected by the "Great Recession".
The site features the stories from their film and also asks people to submit their story. It's powerful and impactful as you listen and view the people affected by the "Great Recession." This piece really hits home when you realize these people look like your aunts, your uncles, your best friends older sister, or even your former colleagues or supervisors.
Thank you Susan M. Sipprelle and Samuel D. Newman for putting this out in the universe, it will open many eyes of those who feel that unemployed people are just "playing victim" -- it is a reality that no one can imagine. Especially the younger generation.
Visit Over 50 and Out of Work and spread the word.
